Purists can be happy now!

I finally got to trying out the CP that I had drawn, that I knew needed some fixing. After fooling around with the model for a while, I finally ended up with this, from a 24:24 grid:


It ended out not quite as good looking as the original War Pig with cuts, mainly because of the shorter back legs, but it still worked!


As you can see in the picture below, this model not only has short back legs, but also has two tails! Must help him in warfare somehow ;)

Man, so simple. Part II

With the model being so easy, it is also fairly easy to make variations. Heres a couple of examples, both from 2:1 rectangles:

Cute little Cat

My latest design was a nice little cat that has been described as a "new-born" kitten. On the french origami forum, there is currently a cat design challenge, which I barely managed to participate in. Deciding against using box pleating for this model (seeing as it would probably take to long), I did what I do best: I guessed. after a while, I figure out that I wasn't going to get the cat out of a waterbomb base like I wanted to, so I used what little knowledge of origami design secrets I had and combined a head part from 1 fifth of the square to a waterbomb base out of the other 4 fifths. I eventually ended up with this:


the model was quite weird looking at first (not to say that it isn't anymore), but I fixed up the eyes a little to make it look a little less weird

Pigs from boxes?

I started designing models out of box pleating right after I folded my first two boxpleating models, Tran Trung Hieu's Luna Moth and Eric Joisel's Dwarf. So far, I've only been able to design two things (and ones still incomplete).

My first ever design from box pleating was a simple pig. The design challenge on the english origami forum for "Best of Show Pig Contest 2007" had started, so I designed a simple little pig from a 16:16 grid...:


...and folded it



Then, because of my friend from the BZFlag forum with the username WarPig, I decided to design my own little War Pig from his avatar. Heres what I ended up with, out of a 24:24 grid, although it's not completely finished:

You kind of have to cut along the red lines, so purists beware!

As I said, I'm still working on it, and I'm pretty sure that I'll have a model with no cuts very soon.

IAFBVO... *phew* thats a mouthful!

While reading about with Peter Engel's idea of Traditional Japanese model's all being from a unit, where the kite base has two, the fish base has four, the bird base has eight and so on, I thought "what would it be if I took it past the frog base?" Well, it turned out to be a blintzed frog base. Well, what comes after that? A truly strange base, where, if folded wrong, makes the IAFBVO

IAFBVO stands for Insane Abstract Frog Base Variation Object (you can see why it needed to be represented with letters). It is made up of four frog bases put together, like so:

It's not really all that insane, but I was pretty excited to have a new design!

Man, so simple!

After a while of trying to fold David Derudas' frog, I noticed something: the model that I had folded sort of looked like a man. I quickly tried folding half of the model out of a square, and ended up with this:

It dawned on me that I had stumbled on a new model, which I could call my own! After a while, I made up a CP (which shows you how simple it is)


and fixed up the head with a petal fold



With the earlier attempt at the frog, I also noticed I could make a convenient little table out of the 2:1 rectangle


This model seemed to do everything! It even becomes a box-man when the arms are pulled!

My Rabbit

After a long time of folding, I was inspired by Joseph Wu's rabbit to design my own, seeing as Joe rarely posts diagrams or CPs for his work. So, I went out and designed this little rabbit out of a 2:1 rectangle.

My First Design

My first ever design was a kiwi, plain and simple. I saw Roman Diaz's Kiwi CP and didn't understand it in the least bit, and then I tried folding my own
